wax on wax on {4 way friday}

two girls.  some serious wax.  four ways.

yep we love those wax jeans.  what do you think?  are they crazy?  my husband still can't quite understand them, he says "those leather jeans of yours."  the things they come up with in fashion.

so not only are we finally getting around to some denim demonstration {say that 4 times fast!} but we also have a high end/low end as well.  its nice to be able to spend less when you aren't sure how an item will fit into your wardrobe rotation, or frankly, you just don't want to spend the money.  I get it.  and although I love my jeans, I am a bit miffed I didn't do what Jenn did.  so here we go, we narrowed our outfits down to just four...

outfit #1 - when you're stuck with a day that's gray and lonely.  just look at my face, I think I needed to go back to bed.  it was raining, I almost put my rainboots on!  but alas, here it is the ever so slightly sparkly fringed blanket I mean poncho.  I think the wax jeans keep this outfit from being too melancholy.  these are my reversible freezable jeans, see the reverse side here.  they are the high end but what I appreciate is you get double bang for you buck, and they have held the shape extremely well despite the non-wash instruction.  now if I could just find a smile!

poncho - Isla Boutique
shirt - Splendid
boots - DV by Dolce Vita, Nordstrom {on sale}
earrings - Lucia K. Jewelry Blake {I guess you can't really seem them}

outfit #2 - off to toddler little gym in wax jeans and sequins, well if you pair them with converse I think its totally realistic.  I am completely coveting this shirt - plaid and sequins.  Jenn says she reaches for these wax jeans over her more expensive versions and should have bought multiples.

shirt - Free People, Nordstrom {on sale}
jeans - Old Navy
shoes - Converse, Zappos
watch - Michele, Nordstrom {on sale}

outfit #3 - when you just don't want to shave your legs for a cocktail party {well I guess you could wear tights.}  but the point is, dress up these wax babies, for an evening out, add some heels and a structured jacket or blazer and they stand up to any little black dress.

blazer - Zara {on sale}
silk tank - White House Black Market {old}
jeans - Bleulab
shoes - Marc Jacobs {oldies but besties}

outfit #4 - and the winner is...fur always wins.  this winter textures are top and this one has so many great textures - suede shoes, wax pants, crepe top, faux fur vest {and baby smooth skin because Jenn is an spf freak! apparently it pays off}

shirt - J. Crew {old, similar, 30% off with code toyou}
vest - TopShop, Nordstrom
heels - Madewell {30% off code toyou}
bracelet - Stella and dot

and now I am off to bed to find my smile.  sweet dreams.  TGIF!

best,
kirsty {and Jenn}

baby its cold outside {what i wore}

aaannnd it really was.

annnnnnd I was very much having a very pat.yourself.on.the.back moment when I thought to take my sherpa vest {that I scored from Jenn} and layer my very.favorite.second.christmas.present.I.ever.received.from.my.now.husband.classic.red J. crew coat over it.

because I am loving all the exaggerated collars {like this, and this, so cute and on sale.} happening right now and I wanted to participate without having to spend money because, well, yet again, I live in Southern California.  so.

my heart was full this evening.  we were out and about around our town for their sweet little Christmas celebration.  and since I think wedge sneakers are indeed sneakers, if I am going to be walking some {not at a disneyland level of course but some} I reach for these sneaks.  actually they are quite comfortable for wedges.  truly I dig them, whoever first designed these I'm sorry I may have ridiculed them at first but I have completely come around.

how different this Christmas looks than any other I've had.  it pulls at my heartstrings and there have been a lot of tears, but there have been some tender and wonderful experiences mixed in too.
hope you are finding your home wherever you are this december.  thank you for reading.

sequin moment {4 way friday}

one dress.  two girls.  and a whole lot of sequins!

because I just don't think sequins need to be reserved {albeit always appropriate} for the cocktail event, so I had the bright idea to challenge Jenn to style this sequin number four ways.  hopefully highlighting its versatility and that it is not just a one trick pony...perfect for a party and then stuffed back into the closet.

#1 - classic.  immediately I claimed the classic predictable look.  this is your statement christmas party dress or new years eve soiree sparkler.  love the flattering silhouette without being to racey.

husband said "try biting your lip"  he likes to make that joke a lot because I do not pull of sultry well at all, and the whole biting your lip makes me look silly every time.  thanks hub.
dress - shopruche.com
tights - target
shoes - kelsi dagger
clutch - vintage
bracelets - Lucia K. Jewelry Nora Black and Ombre

#2 - casual yet oh so sophisticated.  how about layered over a classic white button up shirt, and pair with flat over the knee boots, maybe you wouldn't rock this to the grocery store but it is easily day appropriate...downtown christmas gift shopping or catching up with a friend over lunch.

shirt - J. Crew {30% off with code giftnow}
dress - shopruche.com
tights - Nordstrom
boots - Vince Camuto {similar}
clutch - Tory Burch {old}
bracelet - J. Crew {similar}

then it started to get tricky...

#3 - all turned around.  I kept trying to layer bulky sweaters or short jackets with this dress but nothing was working.  I was determined, how about layering a full skirt over the top?  especially ANY of these!  {why haven't I purchased yet??}  I think it works, turn my dress into a shirt?  forgot to mention above, I am wearing the dress backwards.  then I layered a skirt over a dress.  oh and I took a pair of old boots and folded them over to create booties.  so its a complete mixup, but I think it works.

shirt - anthropologie
skirt - J. crew
tights - target
boots - nine west
earrings - Lucia K. Jewelry christine
bracelet - Lucia K. Jewelry Nora

#4. the best for last - this short little number ended up being more tunic, less dress on Jenn in her awesome tallness.  I'm not sure there is a better going out to dinner or meeting someone for drinks during these dark winter months outfit.  seriously in love.  and this is the dress worn the correct way, from the front.

coat - Nordstrom
leggings - Anthropologie
bootie - Nordstrom {on sale}
earrings - Lucia K. Jewelry Christine

so there you have it.  I hope this makes you want to own, and wear, more sequins.   and maybe next time we style pajama pants.  who's ready to snuggle up next to the fire with a plate of homemade cookies under the christmas tree lights.  Holiday season is wearing me out.

TGIF.

best,
kirsty {and Jenn}

put a hat on it. {what i wore}

I've noticed as my summer wardrobe has turned into winter, my clothes have gotten dramatically more gray/taupe/black/neutral, even in california.  somehow I've reserved all my color for the lonnnnnger days.  and all the furs and textures come out.  {stay tuned for friday's post!}

I love how this hat takes a rather dressy outfit and makes it more casual and wearable daywear.  and I love this company, Krochet Kids.  its a win win.  annnnd it was even cold enough to need a hat!

Krochet kids is a non-profit that works with women in Uganda and Peru to empower them out of poverty.  all of the items are made by these woman.  wouldn't these be great christmas gifts?...especially for the kiddos.

road less traveled or travelled...{what i wore}

with one "L" or two "L."  one of those words as you write you hear the rule in your head but then you immediately wonder is this an exception?  I admit, I did google it to make sure I have the past tense right, apparently both are correct.  love the english language.

but really.  LOOK at this fall day we found in Southern california!   it was so very appropriate Thanksgiving day weather.  my heart was so happy.

and I found the most comfortable flannel shirt.  somehow while still being relatively thin, not adding extra unnecessary layers, it has this soft lining on the inside.  its really the perfect choice for any sort of road trip event.

shirt - Rails, Queen Anne Dispatch
jeans - 7fam, Hautelook
boots - Anthropologie {now on sale}
earrings - Lucia K. Tag
hat - CC, Hobie {similar}
