Festive Fashion {no. 1}

Christmas Season is officially upon us which in and of itself can be overwhelming...gifts to buy, wrap, visitors in town or a suitcase to pack up for the weekend, and the parties are in full effect this time of year. So, over at Lucia K we've been dreaming up some inspiration to make your holiday ward-robing a little easier. Whether it's your family get together where comfort is a necessity and style is secondary or if you just can't find the perfect outfit for your company party...

A dear friend of mine just started a new job in the corporate world, because of the economy her company cut the nighttime holiday soiree for a daytime less formal event. What better way to showcase some of her new corporate attire with some great accessories that dress it up just enough....

Miz Mooz grey pumps (the perfect height for the taller girl because of the less prominent heel), a hint of holiday green top thanks again to TJ Maxx, the perfect pair of sparkle, a weathered but still put together wool skirt from J.Crew, a pair of opaque tights, and the down-to-earth soft-as-silk Nora for the final touch.

Share with us your festive fashion ideas...we'd love to hear.

Feature Friday {and 30% off!!}

Lets talk about Nora...

and Vivian...

These pieces were inspired by a macrame side table my parents had in their living room growing up.  What I wouldn't give to have that table now.  I remember it had pictures from all the national parks they had visited decopaged on the table top and it hung from the ceiling.  Someone had made it for them as a wedding gift in 1978.

So instead of of wooden beads and jute, the material I use is czech glass fire-polished crystals and Midori Dupioni Silk.

The silk is cut on a bias with a raw edge, so the piece slightly frays as you wear it.  I LOVE the mix of the fancier crystals and silk with the organic unfinished edges, it makes this piece very unique, and makes it oh so easy to dress up or down, hopefully becoming a classic piece in your wardrobe.

You can wear the Nora necklace long {how cute is this with your favorite white shirt and jeans}...

Or double it up for a shorter look {I think this would be amazing with a little holiday cocktail dress, or under a pinstripe suit}...

I think the Vivian necklace is a bit more edgy than Nora, a little bit more unexpected.

And I love the color of the Vivian in Bronze because as it frays and softens, it reminds of faux fur, especially layered.

There are bracelets too.  I used a magnetic barrel clasp for the closure, so you don't need help putting them on, this is so great for me because my husband is not so helpful with small little clasps.  The Nora bracelet has a sterling silver clasp that has an heirloom quality to it, when I first spotted it, I was instantly drawn to it, like my grandma's silver...

These pieces are easily layered together, for a more dramatic effect...

And there are lots of new colors for the fall...
an amazing midnight - dark navy with hints of gray and purple and iridescent crystals {my they sparkle}

a deep burgundy - with beautiful amethyst colored crystals {just the right pop of color}

a rich hazelnut - a gorgeous copper that frays dark brown with rose gold colored crystals {has a great vintage vibe to it}

So that's the dish on Nora and Vivian.

For the next week, the Nora and Vivian pieces are all 30% off! Also, Free Shipping on all orders!

Perhaps the perfect gift idea, or maybe just the finishing touch to your holiday outfit.  Either way fantastic!

Enjoy, thanks for reading.

Happy Black Friday.

Kirsty

The Thanksgiving Table

Here are some of my favorite festive tables this year...

Love this idea for my grandma's {that she has given to me, yippee!} silver...

Also on the table, mustard yellow dish with doilies underneath, and a cupcake {I love me some pumpkin, but not so much pumpkin pie}.

And of course I'm distracted by cheese but how about this to start, oh yes.  And love that wide velvet belt, wouldn't last {fit} passed this course I think...

Do you know {found}?  Everything from this entire shoot is gorgeous and rustic vintage.  And you can actually rent for events, well if you live in southern California.  This bittersweet branches with eucalyptus and velvet as a place card, so clever...

The chandeliers too, wouldn't if be fun, and notice the faux mantel in the background...

Looks like it was all picked from a wonderful autumn garden in my backyard {wish}.

This is a favorite blog of mine.  Love that the table is set just for the two of them, now this thanksgiving they are a family of 4!

The bright colored blocks covered in velvet for trivets.  {Although probably only a one-time use}.

The perfect little kiddo table...so fantastic for my two year old who wants to write on everything

And finally, if you are wondering how to set a proper formal table, leave it to Martha...

No matter what your table looks like, or how many are setting at it,  my prayer is that your heart is reminded of what it is thankful for and your tummy is full of good food.  Wouldn't that truly be Thanksgiving, if everyone were able to experience this.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Kirsty

Fabulous and Easy Gift Idea {DIY Infinity Scarf}

While on a little work trip, my husband, the boys, and I, were fortunate enough to squeeze in a small vacation last weekend down in Southern California.  We were able to visit family that we just don't get to see often enough.  While we were there the adults got a babysitter for the kiddos {woohoo!} and we went to the University of Washington vs Southern California football game.

Although NOT HAPPY with the game's outcome, I was thrilled with our attire...

It was slightly chilly that day so my sis-in-law suggested we try to find some purple fabric and make scarves.  Aren't they fabulous!  They were so easy {seriously like 15 minutes tops} and so wonderfully wearable.

My sister-in-law had the great idea to make some as holiday gifts too {hopefully one for me!}.

We used this pattern.

Think of the possibilies here...

...a striped knit, or a bold turquoise, or anything animal print.  I've been dreaming of sparkle and sequins {'tis the season}...perhaps something more decadent for the holidays.

Happy Friday!

Kirsty

cold weather go-to's {and a recipe!!}

All this brisk Seattle weather has got me thinking...and I feel like most days (or at least monday - thursday) I wear a version of the same outfit. And so it goes, Monday: boots, jeans, scarf, cardigan, tag earrings....and tuesday repeat but change the color of the scarf and cardigan and I'm off to work with my chai tea latte in hand with the fierceness that it takes to face that PNW sideways rain {so a great rain jacket is also a must!}

My other cold weather go-to...White Chicken Chili, perfect for a cold evening and/or for lunch the next day. Here's what you need...

1 lb boneless skinless chicken in 1/2 inch cubes
1 med onion chopped
1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tbl. veg. oil
2 cans (15.5 oz ea.) great northern beans (drain & rinse)
1 can (14.5 oz) chicken broth
2 cans (4 oz ea.) chopped green chilis
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup whipping cream
How you make it...
In a large saucepan, saute chicken, onion, and garlic powder in oil until chicken is no longer pink. Put in large pot. Add beans, broth, chilies, and seasonings. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in sour cream and whipping cream immediately before serving.

What are your cold weather go-to's?
What piece from Lucia K. do you keep wearing over and over again?

Stay Warm!

wedding jewelry worn again...

Sometimes I wish there were a reason {or excuse} to put my wedding dress back on, but without reason or excuse I'm going to have to accept that as much as I love my wedding dress, it just won't suffice for any holiday party this season. I do though, have some things from my wedding day that can and do translate to my every day style. First on that list,  you guessed it I'm sure, my amazing Lucia K. jewelry. I can (and do) wear it again. I get the most compliments on those Lucia K. custom pieces when I'm in a meeting or roaming the streets of the U district on lunch breaks.

Not only did Kirsty create something that so brilliantly complimented my dress and other accessories on that day, she also made something that I was comfortable (and excited) to keep wearing again and again and again. Check out the outfit I wore just the other day...

{JCrew cream sweater, TJ Maxx shirt, skinnys, frye favorite boots, greenish scarf, and lovely Alison earrings named after...ME!}

I have always been a girl who believed that pearls didn't have to be worn in a single strand around your neck or as studs in your ears for a special occasion. I have also always been a girl that couldn't find anything that fit my style and had pearls in it...until Lucia K. This is the sort of wedding jewelry that you can wear throughout your whole marriage, wedding day, honeymoon, date night, work day, holiday. If you're planning a wedding, contact Lucia K. and ask to see our Wedding Line or check out the rest of the pearl goodness on our website!
